Valentine's Day 2012

Valentine’s Day fell on a weekday this year so we had to make the best of it. We made homemade cards with scrapbook hearts, doilies, and markers. They turned out so adorable! Then on Valentine’s Day we made delicious sugar cookies. Makayla did a great job cutting out the cookies and eating the cookie dough! The sugar cookies were ultra simple, and they were soft and very tasty. Everybody seemed to enjoy them .
 Here is the recipe:

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups butter or margarine, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Directions

  1. In a mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar. Beat in vanilla. Combine flour, baking soda and salt; gradually add to the creamed mixture. Shape into two 8-in. rolls; wrap each in plastic wrap. Refrigerate for 4 hours or until firm. Unwrap and cut into 1/4-in. slices. Place 2 in. apart on ungreased baking sheets. Bake at 350 degrees F for 12-14 minutes or until set (do not brown). Remove to wire racks to cool.
We totally skipped the refrigeration step and they turned out wonderful. I mean…who has 4 hours to wait for cookies!
